Teacher Notes

  1. ​Download the PDF below.

  2. Print and laminate the animal cards.

  3. Cut the animal cards and mix them up.

  4. Have a classroom discussion on the various modes of movement between different animals.

  5. Prompt the students to consider the reasons why different types of animals move differently (environment, predators, etc.).

  6. Demonstrate to the students how to sort the animal cards under the 3 different categories.

  7. You can check answers using the chart provided.

  8. Ask the students higher order questions. 

Questions

  1. ​How does an animal's environment impact how it moves? - Animals often adapt to their environment.

  2. Are there any animals that can move in more than one way? - Penguins can swim and walk.

  3. What do all animals have in common? - All animals move, breath, and have babies.
